Place the seam tape under the exposed edges. The seam tape should have a center stripe or reference to keep it centered. Drag the heated seaming iron over the tape. Try using a clothes iron and you might as well shoot yourself in the foot.

Set the iron on 300º 350º depending on the carpet the carpet backing and the seam tape. Complete the seam by butting both sections of the carpet together while the adhesive is still wet allowing the carpet and cushion to make contact with the tape and seam sealer at the same time. As you move down the seam with the iron roll over the joined seam behind the iron using a seam roller to press the carpet edges into the tape adhesive and ensure they lie flat. In iron the right size 4 or 6 inch designed to construct hot melt carpet seams is mandatory.
